Yesterday is history.  Tomorrow is a mystery.  And today?  Today is a gift.  That's why we call it the present.  ~Babatunde Olatunji

I resolve to be ever present in the present.  More present as a Mom, a wife, a friend, a sister, a daughter.  This is about relationships....my most important blessing.  They are my priceless gifts.  I want more than anything to be able to fully soak up all of this life in the present moment.

I love this photo.  Love it, adore it.  I love it in its imperfection: a mirror shot, low light and taken on the timer.  The focus is off.  But this is me, staying in the present, even when it isn't perfect....and showing that.  Being present in the present doesn't consist of me being behind the camera.  In this moment it meant setting my camera down, pointing, hitting the timer and waiting.
But if you look and can feel it....Tessa is totally secure, loved.
And I am totally present.

One of the ways in which I am committing to be present is by
being apart of the Rockin' Mama Challenge.  Rock alone for 15 minutes a day with your child.  I have been rocking with Tessa for long periods since she came home.  My instincts told me we needed that alone time to connect, so I could teach her that I can soothe her.  Our rocking chair in her room is right next to her mirrored closet door.  I have loved that when she didn't want to make eye contact, she could look at us together.  We can make eye contact through the mirror as we rock.
So, why participate in the challenge when I have already been doing this?  Because since I feel like we are becoming more and more bonded, I feel less of a need to carve this time out.  I don't want to lose the momentum we have in our bonding process.  I love it and this commits me to continue rocking, to stay present in it when I am tempted to be distracted by life's demands.  Staying present!

  1. I think this is a great shot. No shot has to have perfect composition or focus or lighting to be a "good photo" but if it is full of love and makes a great memory then its worth all the "perfect photos" in the world!! Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a lovely comment!

  7. Yup- beautiful shot!
I love the rockin' challenge. Would you believe it if I told you that we do not own a rocking chair? Pathetic, I know, and now I'm realizing that we may need to do something about that. I mean, seriously, to be a mama who doesn't rock...who wants to be that?! Not me!

  9. Some of my most blessed memories are with my children on our rocking chair...one that my Nanny (grandmother)sat and rocked on before me. Although I don't have pictures of these times, they are embedded in my mind forever. Ones that I can draw upon at any moment..where true bonding comes from. Love this post as it is a reminder~Thanks!
